Puerto Progreso, Yucatan — Eight people who reported drifting in a vessel were rescued by the Navy of Mexico. The boat of eight were reported to authorities by a passing cargo ship Hafnia Mikala.
The ship spotted the stranded boat off the coast of Yucatan. The cargo ship reported that the vessel carrying eight had ran out of propulsion and was adrift. Elements of the Navy of Mexico set sail in search of the boat, locating it in waters off the state of Yucatan.
On board were eight Cuban nationals. The two women and six men were transferred to Puerto Progreso Ferry dock along with their vessel. Since they were unable to prove prove of their legal stay in Mexican territory, they were placed at the disposal of the INM Representation Office in the state of Yucatan where they continued with their corresponding immigration administrative process.
