Bacalar, Q.R. — Police are working on the identity of the victim and the exact cause of a car fire in the municipality of Bacalar. One person was found burned to death inside the car located on the side of the highway.
Authorities were notified of the incident Friday when passing vehicles saw the Corsa completely engulfed in flames. According to witnesses, there was one person inside the car at the time of the fire.
The car was reported burning off the highway near the community of Kuchumatán. The fire had burned itself out by the time emergency personnel made it to the scene.
One passerby who videoed the car fire reported seeing a man inside. It is unknown if the man was trapped alive or deceased in the car when it began to burn. They also videoed the car’s license plate before it burned.
Rural Police officers arrived to cordon off the area while authorities investigated Friday afternoon.
