Bacalar, Q.R. — A bus carrying a load of passengers was hit by an older model Volkswagen Beetle which sent it off the highway and into brush.
The accident happened in the municipality of Bacalar when the driver of the blue Volkswagen attempted to enter the Federal Highway. Seeing a gap in traffic, the driver of the unplated car tried to get onto the highway when he managed to clip the oncoming bus, sending it off the road.
The driver of the bus said he was coming from Cancun with 35 passengers when he was hit by the car. The impact sent both vehicles into the ditch. No injuries were reported.
The driver of the vehicle fled the scene but was discovered a shot distance away. He explained the car belonged to his father and that he had stolen it from the family home only moments before.
The blue Beetle was a complete write-off.
