Passenger arrested after X-ray reveals 1.7 million in ‘wads’ inside carry-on backpack

Monterrey, Nuevo León — A passenger found with over 1.7 million in cash was arrested from the Monterrey International Airport. The Wednesday arrest took place inside a terminal of the airport after a baggage inspection.

In a statement, it was reported that elements of the “National Guard (GN) detained at the Monterrey International Airport a person in possession of approximately 1.7 million pesos without the documentation that proved the legal origin of the cash.”

The discovery was made during a terminal baggage inspection of a backpack using X-ray. Airport personnel were able to determine its contents to be “wads of bills”.

When carrying out a review of the backpack, they “located several packages containing bills in denominations of 500 and 1,000 Mexican pesos for an approximate amount of 1,700,000 pesos.”

The unidentified male passenger failed to present the documentation that would support the origin or the legal transfer of the cash, for which he was arrested.
