Partial loss of gear creates rough landing for Guatemala flight after leaving Cancun International

Flores, Guatemala — Ejército Guatemala reported on the rough landing of a plane in Flores after leaving Cancun. The small plane that was carrying 14 passengers and three crew skidded into a field after experiencing landing gear issues.

According to information from the Guatemalan Army (Ejército Guatemala), the aircraft, owned by TAG Airlines, lost part of its landing gear when descending to the airstrip. Due to the loss of the part, the plane ended up skidding off the runway and into a green area.

Army Spokesperson Rubén Téllez revealed that it was during the landing maneuver that the incident occurred, leaving the plane stranded in the undergrowth of the airstrip Sunday morning.

Elements of the Northern Air Command of the Guatemalan Air Force went to the site. No injuries were reported. On social media, Tag Airlines confirmed the flight happened on a direct from Cancun International to Flores.

Ejército Guatemala posted “through the Northern Air Command, they assisted in the evacuation and transferred to a safe place, the passengers of a private airline which presented damage to the landing gear.”
