Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — A bus stop that caught fire in central Playa del Carmen Thursday brought traffic to a temporary standstill while flames shot out and ignited palapa grass covered the road.
Firemen arrived at the site where police had already shut down the lanes of traffic while the grass-topped bus stop burned, throwing blackened grass in all directions. The public transport stop, which is located along Playa del Carmen Boulevard, was reported on fire around 9:00 a.m. by passing taxi drivers.
Local firemen blamed a short circuit for the palapa fire. There were no injuries reported.
