Pair arrested after attempted Cancun to Playa del Carmen ADO passenger robbery

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Two men were taken into custody in a highway interception in Playa del Carmen Saturday after attempting to rob passengers. The incident happened during an ADO bus trip from the Cancun airport to Playa del Carmen.

Police were notified of the bus robbery in progress and proceeded to set up a road block along the federal highway. Once the bus neared Pintores Avenue along Playa del Carmen Boulevard, police intercepted the bus with a highway blockade.

From inside the bus, two out-of-state men were taken into police custody. Police proceeded to arrest 32-year-old Javier “N” from Chiapas and 31-year-old Fernando “N” from Campeche.

The ADO had left the Cancun airport Saturday headed for its final destination of Playa del Carmen when the incident occurred. The bus driver alerted police to what was happening and in turn, the Seguridad Ciudadana Solidaridad (SSC) responded with the highway interception.

In a statement, the SSC said “the Solidaridad Municipal Police arrested two individuals accused of trying to assault passengers on a bus on Playa del Carmen Boulevard in response to a call for help.

“Elements of the Preventive Police caught up with a bus with economic number 019 reported via emergency number 9-1-1, and when speaking with the passengers, they pointed out Javier “N”, 32 years old originally from Chiapas and Fernando “N”, 31-year old originally from Campeche, as those who were possibly assaulting and threatening a couple.

“The subjects adopted an aggressive attitude against the officers and were subsequently placed at the disposal of the State Attorney General’s Office for the clarification of responsibilities,” they reported.
