Playa del Carmen, Q. R. — Patrolling military personnel reportedly collected a total of five wrapped packages of cocaine Saturday. On Sunday, the Secretary of the Navy said the five packages were located on a beach near Punta Maroma, an area north of Playa del Carmen.
“This action was carried out during ground surveillance tours by naval personnel stationed in Playa del Carmen who located and recovered five rectangular packages wrapped in black plastic on the coastline in the vicinity of Punta Maroma,” they reported in a statement.
After being transferred and tested, the weight of the packages was verified to be just over 5.2 kilos of powdered cocaine.
“Derived from the above, said packages were made available to the General Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic (FGR) based in Cancun. During the month of January of this year, six packages with suspected cocaine have been seized on the coast of the state of Quintana Roo,” the Secretary of the Navy said.
