Overturned semi catches fire in state of Michoacán

Morelia, Michoacán — A multi-vehicle collision left a semi overturned on a portion of the Salamanca-Morelia highway in the state of Michoacán. The Friday morning accident is said to have left at least two dead after the semi caught fire.

Emergency services responded to the 9:35 a.m. accident that saw the highway immediately closed in both directions as aid corps worked on providing medical attention to those on site.

On social media, the Michoacán delegation of the Ministry of Communications and Transportation posted, “Accident on the Morelia-Salamanca highway closed the La Cinta-Uriangato section of the alternate free Federal Highway 43; drive with caution in the area.”

Firemen also attended to the scene where they extinguished the burning semi unit. Authorities continue to work to determine the cause of the accident.
