One officer killed three more injured after unit slams into tree

Zacualpan, Edomex — One state police officer was killed and three more injured Sunday after an afternoon crash of their unit. The accident happened around 1:00 p.m. in Zacualpan in the State of Mexico when the patrol unit crashed with another vehicle.

Three officers involved in the two-vehicle crash were transferred to hospital by helicopter after the patrol unit slammed into a tree. The accident happened just before 1:00 p.m. on the Piedra Parada highway in Zacualpan where the unit collided with a private truck and then into a tree.

One officer, identified as Efrain N, died at the scene. The other three officers, Maylin, Adolfo Ángel and Jorge Alexis were injured. The 54-year-old driver of the Doge pickup truck, Rogelio N, was arrested after receiving medical treatment.

The State Security Secretariat reported that it was an accident that involved a private truck and not an attack as was initially thought.
