One killed two serious in federal highway crash outside Playa del Carmen

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — A female driver was killed Sunday night in a two car crash that sent two others to hospital. Numerous emergency services were at the accident scene that took place on the federal highway between Playa del Carmen and Puerto Morelos.

Early reports say the female driver of one of the cars, for reasons unknown, jumped the median and landed in oncoming traffic as she neared the entrance to Playa del Carmen. She hit an oncoming car head on. She was killed. The driver of the car she hit was seriously injured.

A male passenger inside the car that jumped the median was also injured.

National Guard Highways were on scene of the 7:00 p.m. crash due to the extent of the accident. Large and small pieces of debris littered the highway for meters around the scene.

Traffic was effected for more than two hours while the deceased was removed from the car and ambulances transferred the two injured to a Playa del Carmen hospital. Both men are reported to be in serious condition. The female driver was heading into Playa del Carmen at the time of the crash.

Two of those involved in the accident have been publicly identified as injured passenger Ernesto “N” and the deceased Aida “N” from the same Mexico City-plated car.
