Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — A late night collision between a private car and a fire truck left one person dead and four with injuries. The accident was recorded between a compact car and responding fire unit at the intersection of 30th Avenue with Constituyentes in the middle of the night Sunday.
According to preliminary information, the driver of the red car was entering the intersection with a green light when he was hit by the oncoming fire truck. The driver of the city fire truck was responding to a call along 10th Avenue at the time of the accident.
According to the police report, the fire unit moved through the intersection where it collided with the car then hit a concrete pole before finally coming to a stop. Those from inside the car were transferred to hospital where one person, a minor child, died shortly after arriving.
The driver of the fire unit was also treated for injuries and taken into custody for questioning.
