Nuevo Xcan, Q.R. — One person was killed and 14 others injured when a motorcycle crashed into a public combi. The public transport van was running a route along the El Tintal highway at 4:30 a.m. when the accident happened.
Emergency personnel from Kantunilkín, the nearest place with responders, rushed to the early morning highway crash. They traveled the 20 kilometers to the accident scene where they found the public unit in flames.
Preliminary reports say the driver of a motorcycle hit the van head on just outside the town of Nuevo Xcan, a town due west of Playa del Carmen in the municipality of Solidaridad.
The driver of the bike was killed. Moments after the collision, his bike caught fire which also caught the van on fire. Those traveling in the Izamal, Yucatan van managed to get out in time with only minor injuries.
Firemen, police and medical personnel from Kantunilkín attended to the accident site which saw the highway closed for nearly three hours.
