Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — A worker for a satellite company was killed Thursday night after being electrocuted while installing a new pole along the section of Playa del Carmen – Puerto Aventuras highway. Two other workers from the same unit were rushed to hospital with second and third degree burns.
The accident happened around 7:30 p.m. when the three men arrived to replace a pole that was damaged due to Hurricane Delta. Preliminary reports indicate that while moving the concrete pole into place, a chain from the support crane made contact with the high-voltage power lines.
All three men received an electric shock, however, one died on scene. Paramedics were called to assess the injured and transfer the two surviving workers to hospital. The status of the health remains unknown.
