North American travelers represent 86 percent of visitors to Mexico

Riviera Maya, Q.R. — Over 59 million air passengers have been recorded across the country in the first half of 2024. According to a report by the Ministry of Tourism, these most recent figures are a significant increase over previous years.

According to the Secretary of Tourism of the Government of Mexico, Miguel Torruco Marqués, North America accounts for 86.5 percent of the total, of which just over 15 million passengers arrived in Mexico from the U.S.

In a report, the Ministry said the U.S. airlines with the highest passenger flow during January to June 2024 travel were American Airlines and United Airlines. More than 7.1 million international passengers flew into Mexico on just those two airlines, an increase of 8.8 percent over the same period in 2023.

On international flights on Mexican airlines, 8.1 million passengers were transported, an increase of 14 percent over January to June 2023. Mexican airlines with the highest passenger flow on domestic flights from January to June 2024 were Viva Aerobus and Volaris with over 20.7 million passengers.

Flights from Canada to Mexico arrived with over 2.7 million travelers which represents an increase of 13.5 percent more over the same period in 2023.

In the European market, 1.9 million passengers were recorded, while nearly 2 million were recorded arriving from Central and South America and 151,239 passengers landed in Mexico from Asia.

Torruco Marqués reported that during the current administration, 482 new international routes to Mexico have been registered.
