Bacalar, Q.R. — The new Public Security and Traffic office for the municipality of Bacalar is nearing completion. Pablo Quiroga, the Dispatch Manager of the Bacalar Public Security and Transit Directorate, says the new facility should be completely operational within six months.
He says once the construction of the building is complete, the municipality will need to install the technological equipment. He reported that the new building will not only be the headquarters of Public Security and Transit, but will also house the Command and Control Center (C2) and research analysis, thus allowing an interconnection with the C4 of Chetumal.
According to Pablo Quiroga, they already have the necessary technological equipment to connect to the C2, however, it is the second phase of connection that will take time.
“We are currently at 90 percent progress in the construction of the building. This project arises from the need to have new facilities. We have the necessary equipment, now, it is only its installation that is missing,” said Quiroga.
The new Bacalar police facilities are being built at kilometer 16 of the Bacalar-Chetumal highway. Initially they were expected to be operational in February of 2024, but are now expected to be fully operational by June. The cost for the project is reported to be around 9 million pesos.
