Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Mayor Laura Beristain Navarrete inaugurated a new municipal market in the Bellavista neighborhood of Playa del Carmen. The market, Mundo de las Piñatas, is one of the seven mega-projects being carried out in the city.
The space provides locals with a modern market of 94 stores at an investment of 30 million peso. The mayor says the construction of the market raises the quality of life for area residents.
“This market is an emblematic project that helps to consolidate the Fourth Transformation of our municipality because it dignifies the commercial vocation of those who have collaborated with their work and it constitutes a project that will help to reactivate the economy,” she said.
The market project joins others including the Municipal Comprehensive Rehabilitation Center, the expansion of the Community Development Center, a new cultural center, and the construction of an inclusive park, all of which, are being built in the Ampliación Bellavista neighborhood.
Beristain Navarrete says the projects are part of the Urban Improvement Program and are efforts of the municipal government. The market is occupied by area merchant families, as well as local producers and artisans, who can sell without intermediaries and at more affordable prices, which will allow the area to be reactivated commercially.
