Cozumel, Q.R. — A new direct flight from Los Angeles to Cozumel landed on the island Saturday. Acting mayor Elías Farah Ceh said the airport received the plane of United Airline passengers, which is scheduled to be a new regular flight.
Farah Ceh says that the new route significantly increases Cozumel’s connectivity with the United States. “The arrival of this direct flight represents an opportunity for Cozumel to open its doors to tourists from other parts of the world since the Los Angeles airport offers more than 900 weekly flights to 34 countries.
“We hope that the connection with this important city will increase the island’s connectivity with other destinations such as Asian countries,” he added.
United Airlines will operate the weekly flight between the two cities, departing L.A. every Saturday at 9:00 a.m. to arrive in Cozumel at 3:50 p.m. In the opposite direction, the flight will take off from Cozumel International at 4:50 p.m. with an estimated arrival time in the Californian city of 7:50 p.m.
Los Angeles is the fourth city that United Airlines connects to Cozumel non-stop, after Houston (one daily flight), Denver (four weekly flights) and Chicago (one weekly flight). In principle, the route is scheduled until October 2021, thus covering the summer season, however, flights could be adjusted due to the pandemic and its impact on demand.
