Cozumel, Q.R. — A new direct Calgary to Cozumel flight landed at the island’s international airport for the first time Saturday. Governor Mara Lezama says the new direct flight from Canada boosts air connectivity and tourism in Cozumel.
“As a result of the intense efforts and promotional actions promoted and driven by Governor Mara Lezama, the inaugural flight of the Calgary-Cozumel route, operated by WestJet airline, arrived at the island’s international airport on December 20, the CGC (Coordinación General de Comunicación) said in a statement Sunday.
Governor Mara Lezama noted that the new air connections represent more visitors, more jobs, more well-being and shared prosperity for the residents of the island and Quintana Roo.

In accordance with protocols, state and municipal authorities, directors and guests of the Cozumel International Airport, headed by President José Luis Chacón Méndez, welcomed the first arrival.
Starting December 20, WestJet becomes the airline connecting Cozumel with Calgary in Canada with one weekly flight using Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft with a capacity for 174 passengers.
Passengers can enjoy 12 premium cabins and 162 in economy class.

The new direct route further expands Cozumel’s air connectivity. WestJet currently offers flights to the island from Toronto and now Calgary as part of its expansion into sun and beach destinations, operating seasonal routes.
