Costa Maya, Q.R. — At least half a dozen new cars were destroyed by fire early Sunday morning when the unit transporting them began to burn. Police were at the fiery 7:00 a.m. scene along a section of highway outside the town of Ucum.
There, a double long semi hauling a load of new cars to a dealer in Chetumal was pulled over off the Escárcega highway. Chetumal firemen were requested at the scene to extinguish the vehicles that were found burning on the trailer.
Sticking break pads are believed to have started the fire. According to early information, the fire started after brake pads stuck to the drum, causing them to eventually catch fire. The second trailer of new cars was not damaged.
