Nearly two dozen freed after police hear cries for help inside Playa del Carmen building

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Four arrests were made and nearly two dozen freed after a call for help in residential Playa del Carmen. On Tuesday, the Seguridad Pública of Solidaridad reported on the event that lead to the arrests of four who have been charged with 20 counts of abduction.

While patrolling on Colosio Avenue between 15th and 20th Avenues police heard what they realized were cries for help from inside a property. As they approached, they observed several adults and minors asking for help.

Once inside they arrested Alejandro “N”, 26, Dilan “N”, 29 and Suly “N”, 24 all from Quintana Roo as well as Armando “N”, 33 and from Tlaxcala.

Elements of the Specialized Group for Attention to Family and Gender Violence (GEAVIG) provided legal and psychological support to the 20 foreign people found inside the building. According to the Public Security report, nine of those 20 were minors.

“The detainees were placed at the disposal of the Attorney General’s Office of the Republic who will be responsible for determining their participation in the possible crime of illegal deprivation of liberty.”

The arrests were made Monday night around 10:00 p.m. Those from inside the building are reported to be of Central American origin and were being used for forced labor.
