Nayarit, Mexico — So far this year, more than 500 police officers have been discharged from their position in the state of Nayarit for illegal activity. The Nayarit Attorney General’s Office says they have detained municipal police officers for allegedly being related to crimes such as rape, homicide, kidnapping and robbery.
In their latest announcement Wednesday, the Ministry of Public Security reported two municipal police officers, Ricardo N and Daniel N from Bahía de Banderas, were arrested on allegations of rape against a woman.
Other recent criminal activity announced from inside the department include the arrest of four policemen from Santa María del Oro for homicide, two security elements from the municipality of Tepic for alleged kidnapping and two other former officers from the Acaponeta detachment for allegedly participating in kidnapping and robbery.
The local Prosecutor’s Office issued notification bulletins of the arrests, which they say, will have sentencing follow-ups in due course.
The Secretary of Public Safety of Nayarit, Benito Rodríguez Martínez said that within his dependency, the Department of Internal Affairs was created which includes personnel from the United States Department of Justice of North America.
He explained that the department is responsible for handling complaints, investigating them and, where appropriate, suggesting sanctions for elements that violate the regulations.
