Bahías de Huatulco, Oaxaca — The Secretariat of the Navy of Mexico reports the seizure of a semi-submersible submarine and its crew they detected off the coast of Oaxaca. In a statement released Friday, the navy says they secured the submarine Thursday.
On board, it was found to be carrying a load of drugs. The vessel and its four crew were part of the seizure.
Navy officials say the shipment likely passed the coasts of Chiapas without being detected. However, it was later found after an air and maritime patrol operation when they detected, what they said, was a suspicious semi-submersible vessel with four outboard motors.
With the support of two surface units, an inspection of the vessel was carried out which resulted in the arrest of four Colombians who were found transporting 106 packages of cocaine.
