Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Two vehicles were totaled north of Playa del Carmen Tuesday after colliding along the highway. The crash happened on the federal highway near Punta Maroma leaving one driver injured.
According to initial reports, the accident occurred when one of the drivers, traveling in the left lane, attempted to merge into the right lane at high speed. During the maneuver, they struck a second vehicle on the side.
The impact caused that to leave the road and crash through trees before coming to a stop. The driver was injured and transferred to hospital.
The initial vehicle, meanwhile, was found on its roof. The driver of that car suffered only minor injuries. National Guard Highways were left in charge of clearing away the damaged vehicles.
