National Guard intercept archaeological figurines during random parcel inspection

Colón, Querétaro — National Guard intercepted a parcel containing two clay human figures. The figurines are apparent archaeological pieces. The package was located inside a delivery company in Colón in the state of Querétaro during routine parcel inspections for the shipment of illegal goods.

“After randomly choosing various packages, members of the institution selected a cardboard box and subjected it to review with X-ray and identified inside a couple of objects with shapes and densities that did not correspond to what was indicated on the shipping guide,” National Guard reported in their statement.

During a thorough inspection of the box which had been shipped from Apatzingán, Michoacán, destined for the municipality of Jalostotitlán, Jalisco, they found two clay figures apparently of pre-Hispanic origin, without documentation supporting their legal origin or transportation.

The shipment was insured and transferred to the Federal Public Ministry Agency of the state to continue the corresponding investigations.
