Juan Sarabia, Q.R. — Federal Police prevented the illegal shipment of more than 100 parrots when they were discovered in crates during a routine inspection.
The finding of the birds was made by the Policía Federal along the the Chetumal-Escárcega highway near the community of Juan Sarabia in the state’s south. They report counting 103 parrots being illegally shipped into the state, allegedly brought into Quintana Roo to sell.
The 103 parrots were found distributed into five crates. Federal agents contacted la Procuraduría Federal de Protección al Ambiente (Profepa) and their state counterpart, la Procuraduría de Protección al Ambiente (PPA), to resuce the birds. They were seized and taken for a medical evaluation and subsequent release.
