Mexico’s gasoline prices not set to increase during the start of the year

Mexico City, Mexico — Gas prices are not set to increase around Mexico. At least not in the first month. President Claudia Sheinbaum said Wednesday that the price of magna will not increase at the start of 2026.1.1

The price is set, she said, due to an agreement with gas station companies that included an analysis of profit margins and detailed technical work.

“Many media outlets reported that gasoline prices would increase in January. False. They will not increase.

“It was agreed with the vast majority of gas station owners, 98 percent of them, that regular gasoline would not exceed 24 pesos. Now, if you travel around the country, only in some regions of the southeast and mainly due to transportation, is regular gasoline above 24 pesos.

President Sheinbaum says regular gas prices are not set to increase. December 31, 2025.

She also reported that the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit (SHCP) will not stop collecting the Special Tax on Production and Services (IEPS).

“Increasing the IEPS (Impuesto Especial sobre Producción y Servicios) to match inflation does not impact the price of regular gasoline. This was agreed upon with gas station owners and we will continue working with them,” she said.

President Sheinbaum explained that this alliance is updated every six months and includes a reduction in procedures for companies in the sector in order to guarantee their operation.

She added that this, along with all agreements, are distinguished by the consensus with the sectors involved, such as the increase in the minimum wage, the 40-hour work week, the Justice Plan for Cananea and the Package Against Inflation and High Costs.
