Mexico has ‘very cordial’ conversation with President-elect Donald Trump

Mexico City, Mexico — President Claudia Sheinbaum says she had a “very cordial” conversation with U.S. President-elect Donald Trump. She says they talked about the good relationship there will be between the two countries.

“We had a very cordial call with President-elect Donald Trump in which we talked about the good relationship that there will be between Mexico and the United States,” Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo posted on her social media.

At her morning “Las mañaneras del pueblo” (The People’s Morning Talks) press conference at the National Palace, Sheinbaum said a formal letter of congratulations had already been sent to Trump.

The letter of congratulations was sent after Vice-president Kamala Harris publicly recognized Trump as winner of the November 5, U.S. elections.

“I congratulated him once Vice President Kamala Harris’s recognition of Trump as the winner of the U.S. election was made public, so there was no need to wait for the electoral college procedures since he had already been recognized. We congratulated him and there will be a good relationship,” Sheinbaum said.

“I express my most sincere congratulations to Donald Trump, who won the presidential election of the United States of America. On behalf of Mexico, we acknowledge the American people for their democratic exercise during their election day,” Sheinbaum Pardo said.

“I am certain that we will continue to work together in a coordinated manner, with dialogue and respect for our sovereignties, to advance the broad bilateral agenda that links us,” she added.
