Playa del Carmen, Q. R. — A man posing as a federal health inspector has been taken into custody by Playa del Carmen police. Rodrigo N, 48, was arrested by the Secretariat of Public Security of Solidaridad after being reported by a business owner.
Patrolling officers were hailed down on CTM Avenue when the victim detailed to police that a man who identified himself as an inspector of the Federal Commission for the Protection against Sanitary Risks (Cofepris) requested money in exchange for avoiding a business fine.
The business owner also noticed that when the man drove away in his beige Sentra, it was without plates. With details and a description, officers located the man and his car several blocks away.
During a security search, police found the Mexico City man in possession of three voter credentials, a driver’s license and identification from the Institute for Education. He was also found with various forms of false Cofepris identification.
