Guadalajara, Jalisco — A man hiding in Mexico from the FBI has been located and arrested. It was at the end of December that authorities finally located Jorge Landeros, who had been living under the name of León Ferrara.
Landeros has been wanted by Maryland authorities since 2010 in the death of university accounting professor, Sue Marcum. Marcum, who was 52 at the time of her death, was found in her basement in Bethesda in October of 2010.
Landeros became the prime suspect in her death. The two met during Spanish classes that Landeros taught in Bethesda. They became close, developing close financial ties that included a $500,000 USD life insurance policy of which Landeros was beneficiary.
Marcus Jones, Chief of the Montgomery County Police Department, described Marcum’s murder as a “heinous crime” and accused Landeros of the “coldblooded” deed.
Landeros landed on the FBI’s Most Wanted list after fleeing the U.S. to Mexico where he was born. He has been wanted in the death of Marcum as well as for fleeing the country to avoid prosecution.
Landeros was located in Guadalajara in late December of 2022 living as yoga instructor, León Ferrara. He was arrested but remains in a Mexican prison since he has not yet been extradited to the U.S. to face charges.
