Mayor says Playa del Carmen city social media page fake and creators will be held responsible

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Playa del Carmen mayor Lili Campos says those responsible for creating a fake city social media page will be held liable. Campos says that her government will proceed legally against the cloning of a Facebook page that was found last week.

The page was created to replicate the Playa del Carmen City Council and the Secretariat of Territorial Planning and Sustainability. Not only was the information on the page false, Campos was subsequently reported to federal officials for failing to comply with the current electoral conditions, which prohibits public promoting during the current election for governor.

After being revealed, Campos publicly distanced herself from its content while at the same time pointing out the information spread on them was false.

“That is a serious and irresponsible act and obviously we have publicly disclaimed ourselves… and we will proceed to make all the complaints that are necessary to find out who is supplanting the identity of our Territorial Planning and Sustainability Secretariat, because we cannot be misinforming citizens,” she said in a press conference.
