Mayor announces new highway access arch for Playa del Carmen

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Mayor Estefanía Mercado supervised a new municipal project that will welcome visitors to the city. On Thursday, Mercado announced the assembling of a new access arch to Playa del Carmen.

According to Mercado, in addition to beautifying the area it will have video surveillance cameras as part of the strategies for building peace in Solidaridad.

Accompanied by the Secretary of Infrastructure and Public Works, Dorys Aké Sierra, the Mayor commented that the project should be ready in approximately 45 days.

“The main objective of the project is to build an emblematic structure that functions as a welcome point and represents the cultural and tourist identity of our city, improving accessibility, urban aesthetics and road safety in the access area,” she explained.

Mercado also indicated that this infrastructure will allow the implementation of a comprehensive security and surveillance camera system that guarantees the protection of citizens and visitors.

The access arch, which will be located at the north entrance in the direction of Puerto Morelos, will have high-tech cameras compatible with the C4 system with speed reducers, radar, facial recognition reader and RFID reader.

The overall height will be 13 meters with a clearance height of seven meters. The columns will be eight by 10 meters at the base and the distance from one side of the road to the other will be 40 meters clear.
