Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Firemen and Civil Protection personnel were sent to the scene of a late night fire on Fifth Avenue Monday. Emergency services were at the scene where smoke was located emanating from under the closed door of a clothing shop.
Playa del Carmen firemen were able to break open the door where and enter the nearly smoked out premises. Although flames had not yet developed, visibility inside the shop was nonexistent due to the presence of thick smoke.
The business fire was reported around 9:00 p.m. In response, the area was sectioned off while firemen attended to the scene. Officials were on site for more than an hour.
There were no injuries reported, only material smoke damage. An official cause for the near-fire is still being investigated.
In a brief report Monday night, Playa del Carmen firemen along with the SPC Solidaridad (Secretaría de Protección Civil, Prevención de Riesgos y Bomberos de Solidaridad) said “firefighters and operational elements are attending to a fire in a business on 5th. Avenue. They cordoned off the area to prevent the passage of people since they are still working. No injuries reported.”
