Marina locates two lost nighttime jet skiers on Bacalar lagoon

Bacalar, Q.R. — The Secretariat of the Navy (Marina) rescued two people reported missing on the Bacalar Lagoon. The search and subsequent location of the two jet ski users took place Saturday night.

Through the Eleventh Naval Zone, through the Naval Station for Search, Rescue and Maritime Surveillance (ENSAR) of Chetumal, in coordination with the Chetumal Port Captaincy and Civil Protection, reported on the nighttime rescue.

Authorities located two people who were reported lost on the Bacalar Lagoon after jet skiing into the darkened hours. Marina personnel say they began their search after receiving a call for assistance from Civil Protection to locate two men aboard jet skis in the Chac Estuary within the Bacalar lagoon water system.

The Chetumal National Rescue Team (ENSAR), in coordination with the Harbor Master’s Office, proceeded to search for the missing men They were located and subsequently transported to a safe harbor to be treated by medical personnel from the Health Center in the Municipality of Bacalar.

They were located unharmed. They lost their way and became disorientated after jet skiing on the lagoon in the dark.
