La Paz, Baja California Sur — A man has been sentenced to nine months and 18 days in jail after being found in possession of sea turtle eggs. The Attorney General’s Office of the Republic (FGR) announced the sentence of Cirilo “S” after he was found with them.
The FGR reported that on September 13, 2019, Cirilo “S” was arrested after being found in possession of 100 sea turtle eggs declared in danger of extinction. The eggs were found to have been stolen from a protection pen outside the Hotel Casa Dorada.
Along with jail time, Cirilo “S” has also been ordered to pay 20,277 peso in fines.
