Baja California Sur, Mexico — A man who exchanged a counterfeit $50 USD bill for a 500 Mexican peso bill has been sentenced to more than four years in federal prison. Calixto “T” was charged for using counterfeit currency after exchanging an apocryphal $50 USD bill to a person for 500 peso bill in Baja California Sur.
“Upon realizing the bill was fake, the victim filed the corresponding complaint for which the accused was arrested and made available to the Federal Public Ministry (MPF),” the Attorney General of the Republic (FGR) reported Friday.
“The MPF carried out investigative acts aimed at clarifying the facts and collected evidence that were sufficient to prove the criminal responsibility of the investigated person, who once prosecuted in an abbreviated procedure hearing, was handed a four year and two month prison sentence as well as a financial penalty and compensation for damage to the victim.”
