Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — A man, believe to be a visitor to the area, died Friday night. The unidentified man was pronounced on scene by responding paramedics after they were called to Playa Xcalacoco.
Staff from a Playa del Carmen beachfront hotel saw the man struggling in the sea at dusk. Paramedics arrived at the beach area in front of the hotel around 6:00 p.m., where they located the man. He was laying unconscious in the sand.
The area was cordoned off by police until the body was removed. Lifeguards, who had gone for the day, were not on duty at the time of the incident The man is believed to have drowned, however, an autopsy will determine the official cause of death.
