Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Playa del Carmen police report the detainment of a male subject for the crime of homicide after the death of a man in the irregular settlement of Campesinos Unidos.
Elements of the Secretaría de Seguridad Pública y Tránsito Municipal of Solidaridad announced the arrest of the man after another man was killed in the irregular settlement by gunfire Thursday night.
Municipal Police officers said they responded to the request for help after residents of the colony reported detonations of firearms and injured people in the Campesinos Unidos settlement. When police arrived, they found one person without vital signs.
At the scene, they interviewed one of the injured victims who made the report to Emergency 9-1-1 indicating that he and his brother were shot at as they were walking. His brother was hit by the bullets and died on scene. Police said the injured man identified the shooter as another brother.
Municipal Police began a search operation that resulted in the location of the subject who was identified by the victim. The shooting is alleged to have been over a family land dispute.
