Tultepec, State of Mexico — A truck carrying liquefied petroleum gas (LP) caught fire Thursday night at the T1 booth of the Circuito Exterior Mexiquense (CEM) highway. The fire began when a tanker overturned and caught fire.
The accident was reported around 9:03 p.m. at the entrance of the Tultepec toll booth. The massive ball of fire caused the entire highway to be shut in both directions. Personnel from the National Guard were on site along with elements from Civil Protection where the container, with an approximate capacity of 42,000 liters of storage, overturned.
The blast reached a part of the toll booth as well as nearby vehicles, which also caught fire and began to burn. People in other nearby vehicles could be seen exiting their cars and running to safety.
There was no official word on deaths or injuries.
