Litigation continues over unpaid PDC sargassum collection

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — The municipality of Solidaridad has a debt of more than 7 million pesos with Grupo Dakatso México for sargassum collection. According to Dagoberto Javier Ruiz Lavín, the General Director of Dakatso, the outstanding debt is from the 2018-2021 Beristain administration.

Due to non-compliance in payment, the company filed an injunction in 2019. After a lengthy litigation, a court published a resolution on January 14 that obligates the municipality to settle the debt.

Although the resolution orders payment, the established amount did not cover everything, so the judicial process is still ongoing. Dagoberto Ruiz says the outstanding debt grows between 10 and 15 percent each month compared to the initial 7 million pesos.

Despite the legal situation, Ruiz Lavín says the company continues working on the preservation of beaches with the removal of sargassum.
