Lifeguards pull drowning man from sea after being dragged by current

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — A young man who was swept out to sea off a central Playa del Carmen beach Sunday was rescued. The young man was swimming off an area near Calle 2 when he was dragged out by the current.

Beachgoers and other swimmers stood by and watched as a group of lifeguards rushed out to pull the man from the strong current. He was carried back to the sand by three lifeguards and evaluated.

A large portion of the coast experienced strong wind gusts Saturday and Sunday with the entry of a tropical system that mostly affected the southern region of the state. Yellow flags were posted on a majority of beaches warning people to swim with caution.
