Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — A large fire behind the Playa del Carmen fire station Friday was a controlled burn. Nearby area residents reported the 2:00 a.m. fire to emergency services, however, the early Friday morning fire was intentional.
Municipal officials were destroying hundreds of kilos of seized fireworks. The controlled burn of the fireworks took place along Playa del Carmen Boulevard and 34th Street in the Ejidal neighborhood.
The fireworks burned were seized from illegal sales and stored in the warehouse until they were destroyed. The Ministry of Natural Defense was part of the intentional burn.
