King and Queen of Sweden visit Mexico

Mexico City, Mexico — President Andrés Manuel López Obrador led the official welcome ceremony for Carlos XVI Gustavo and Silvia, King and Queen of Sweden, at the National Palace.

Both were welcomed to Mexico by López Obrador in the Patio de Honor where the official anthems of both nations were sung and official photographs taken.

The event was attended by the Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Alicia Bárcena Ibarra, and the Minister of International Cooperation for Development and Foreign Trade of Sweden, Johan Forssell.

AMLO said that on Tuesday afternoon, the King and Queen boarded the Maya Train to visit the southeastern region of the country.

“We really liked that he decided to come to Mexico as head of state,” he said.

The President also said that earlier Tuesday, their visit included a tour of Diego Rivera’s murals inside the National Palace.

“They are intelligent, educated, generous monarchs and they are our visitors and we served them,” he said from the National Palace.

Previously in a morning press conference, President López Obrador explained that the purpose of the visit was to talk about culture and strengthen the friendship relationship.
