Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Two men accused of being the main extortionists in Playa del Carmen have been charged. The pair were arrested last week and officially charged over the weekend.
“Based on investigations, both individuals are considered two of the main extortionists in the municipality of Solidaridad,” authorities reported in an official statement.
The State Attorney General (FGE) reports that both José Manuel “N” and Jesús Antonio “N” have been charged “for their alleged participation in events possibly constituting the crime of aggravated extortion to the detriment of a victim of reserved identity.”
The FGE detailed that “the victim, in December 2023, received telephone messages demanding payment for an apartment and if he did not do so, the premises would be closed.
“Later, on February 8 of this year, Jesús “N” and José Manuel “N” arrived at the establishment to threaten the victim, leaving him an envelope with a note to call a telephone number, as well as a shell casing.”
At the hearing, the judged decreed that José Manuel “N” and Jesús Antonio “N” be brought to trial for their alleged participation in events possibly constituting the crime of aggravated extortion. He imposed the precautionary measure of justified preventive detention on them.
