Judge hands down 40 year sentence for murder and attempted murder of state police officers in PDC parking lot

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — A judge has sentenced a man to 40 years in prison for the murder of one officer and attempted murder of another. Friday, Sergio “N” was sentenced to 40 years in prison for the March 6, 2021 murder of a state police officer and the attempted murder of his partner.

According to police, “Sergio “N” was found guilty for the March 2, 2021 murder, when at approximately 10:30 p.m. as a passenger on a motorcycle, he arrived at 15th Avenue and Primera Sur Street in the Centro neighborhood of Playa del Carmen where he approached a parked patrol unit and shot its occupants with a firearm.

“Following this action, one of the agents was seriously injured while the co-pilot repelled the aggression and managed to injure Sergio “N” in the left buttock and right leg. The motorcycle driver fled, but they managed to stop them a few blocks ahead,” police reported.

After being found guilty, the judge imposed a sentence of 40 years in prison, in addition to a fine of 1,308,452 pesos and the amount of 878,500 pesos for damages, with regard to qualified homicide. With regard to attempted homicide, he will pay 4,400 pesos as damages, they said.
