Italian travelers offered direct flight to Cozumel for the upcoming holiday season

Cozumel, Q.R. — The International Airport of Cozumel will have its first direct flight from Europe starting this year. Authorities say the island will begin connecting directly with the Italian city of Milan before the upcoming 2026 holiday season.

The new route will be operated by Neos with Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft and will open new opportunities to attract Italian and European tourism to the island. The direct European connection will be a first for Cozumel.

“For the first time in its history, Cozumel will have a direct flight from Europe with the opening of the Milan Malpensa-Cozumel route, which will begin operations on December 24, 2026,” Governor Mara Lezama announced.

“Cozumel will debut its first flight from Europe, connecting Milan and Cozumel. We continue to open new doors to the world so that more visitors and travelers can discover the beauty of Cozumel, the Island of Swallows, and all that our Mexican Caribbean has to offer,” she said.

The new route will be operated by Neos airline, part of Alpitour World, a tourism group that handles more than 3.3 million passengers a year.

The Governor acknowledged the improvements made by Grupo ASUR at the Cozumel International Airport to enable the operation of this new connection, as well as the promotional work carried out jointly by the Quintana Roo Tourism Promotion Council and the State Tourism Secretariat to secure the arrival of this new market.

Governor Lezama highlighted that the new route strengthens the strategy of diversifying international markets and expands the possibilities of attracting European visitors directly to Cozumel in addition to complementing the operations that Neos already maintains in Cancun.

“Behind every flight there are opportunities for our tourism service providers, hoteliers, restaurateurs, artisans and merchants,” the Governor noted.

The new connection will allow Italian travelers to arrive directly on the island and combine their stay with cultural, gastronomic, archaeological and nature experiences in Cozumel, the Riviera Maya and other destinations in the Mexican Caribbean.

Authorities did not say how long the direct Milan to Cozumel flight will be offered.
