Holbox, Q.R. — An investigation continues into the discovery of a woman’s body off the northwest side of the island. The body of an adult woman was reported found floating Thursday near Punta Ciricote.

The deceased has been identified only by her initials J.K.V.D who is said to have been a long time island resident. According to local reports, her death was determined to have been due to drowning, however, there is speculation she may have been the victim of an abduction.
According to local media, the woman went missing with a man she had just started dating. Islanders who asked to not be named, claim the pair were abducted.
To date, only the woman’s body has been found under what has been reported as ‘strange’ circumstances.
On Friday, the day after the discovery of the woman’s body, police issued a missing persons report for 23 year old José Daniel Gutiérrez Gómez.

He was reported last seen on the island March 26, 2026, the same day the woman’s body was found floating off an area near Punta Ciricote. Police continue their search for him.
It is not clear if the death of the woman and the missing man are related since authorities have not released official details surrounding those of the woman and the circumstances of the now-missing man.
At the beginning of March, police and military personnel stepped up security across the island after citizen reports of ongoing criminal activity.
