Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — A man who threatened to shoot an Isla Mujeres reporter was tackled and beaten by neighbors who then held him while waiting for police. The incident happened Tuesday night at a private home along the boundaries of Cancun where two gunmen arrived.
On Wednesday, the Attorney General’s Office reported an investigation has been opened into the attempted murder of the local journalist. The FGE reported the incident happened around 9:40 p.m. in the Copa Nueva neighborhood located on the border between Cancun and Isla Mujeres mainland.
“Last night, NCG, a digital communicator, owner of a police news portal, was threatened by an armed individual who apparently arrived on a bicycle.”
The pair of shooters arrived at the journalist’s home with one of them knocking on the man’s door. When he answered, there was a gun pointed at him. He grabbed the gun and began yelling for help.
Neighbors responded by subduing the gunman. The second man is alleged to have fled. When police arrived, an ambulance was called to transfer the gunman to hospital for injuries sustained.
