Lázaro Cárdenas, Michoacán — An inspection at the Lázaro Cárdenas Customs Office in Michoacán lead authorities to a container of illegal items. The finding was made Friday inside a cargo crate along with other items.
The inspection was part of “Operation Clean-Up” by the Ministry of Economy through the Mexican Institute of Industrial Property (IMPI). The agency said the goal of the operation is to protect industrial property rights and combat the marketing of merchandise that could infringe on them.
During the Friday inspection at the Lázaro Cárdenas Customs Office, 48 pieces of Paris Hilton perfume, along with 31 cardboard boxes containing a total of 3,348 transparent containers with liquid inside, bearing the legend “VICTORIA’S SECRET”, six bundles containing a total of 720 backpacks, bearing the legend “ALO”, and a box containing a total of 280 bags printed with the fictional character known as “KUROMI”, the Government of Mexico reported.
During the visit, the provisional measure consisting of the suspension of the free circulation of merchandise of foreign origin was executed, corresponding to 48 pieces of perfumes, from which a physical sample was extracted for the purposes that the IMPI considers competent, they added.
The inspection was carried out at the facilities of LC Terminal Portuaria de Contenedores, SA de CV. The objective was to verify the merchandise related to the trademark registrations 936805 and 1019397, corresponding to the names “PARIS HILTON” and “CAN CAN PARIS HILTON AND DESIGN”.
Authorities said the National Customs Agency of Mexico (ANAM), the Ministry of the Navy (Semar), and the Ministry of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC) participated.
