Chichen Itza, Yucatan — Members of the National Guard (GN) are reinforcing security in the Chichen Itza archaeological zone in an operation with the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH).
Within the framework of the National Development Plan 2019-2024, and to contribute to the Comprehensive Strategy for the Protection of Mexico’s Cultural Heritage, the National Guard are reinforcing security in the Chichen Itza archaeological zone with an increase in tours.
The additional tours will prevent illegal acts and guarantee the safety of national and international tourists.
The new operation includes tours in the circuits of the archaeological zone, traffic control and enforcement of road regulations, surveillance in parking areas and support to the legal and technical areas.
The National Guard’s Intelligence, Investigation and Scientific Directorates are also participating to support the prevention of crimes as well as promptly attend to the theft of cultural heritage in the different archaeological sites.
The National Guard elements assigned to the archaeological zone received training from the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH).
